We are now registering students for our annual College for Kids summer program serving students age 6 to 19. The program is designed to provide fun, kid-friendly hands-on activities that promote learning.

Students can explore a variety of hobbies and career options, including: art, knitting, needlepoint, photography, robotics and sign language. In addition, students can earn American Red Cross certification in basic aid, babysitting and dog/cat CPR.

LCHEC is also bringing back its popular fire and police academies. These programs allow children to participate in activities that instill a sense of community pride. Goals of the academy are to enhance responsible citizenship, create positive interaction with fire and police officers and to educate young people about the challenges and responsibility of public service. This year, we've added a Teen Firefighters Academy for students 11 – 14, which includes a fire extinguishing activity.
Class sizes are limited, so sign up early to reserve your spot. Course costs range from $20 - $55 and preregistration is required. Financial aid may be available for those who qualify. For more information call 512-556-8226 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. M-F.
