Nurse Aide Testing

Step 1: Schedule your exam

To become a nurse aide and be eligible to work in a Texas nursing home, you must:
  • successfully complete a state-approved nurse aide training and competency evaluation program, and
  • successfully complete the competency evaluation program examination; or
  • qualify to be placed on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry by waiver or reciprocity.
Lampasas County Higher Education Center (LCHEC)
  • LCEHC offers a state-approved nurse aide training program. For more information about our program, click here.
  • LCHEC is also a regional test site for the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) Examination.

 which is a competency evaluation program examination. The NNAAP examination is designed to objectively measure the knowledge and skills of nurse aide candidates to assess at least entry-level competency in the nurse aide field. It is made up of both a Written or Oral Examination and a Skills Evaluation. 

Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) 

The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) was created to administer long-term services and supports for people who are aging as well as for people with intellectual and physical disabilities. DADS also licenses and regulates providers of these services, including the Texas Nurse Aide Registry. 

NACES Plus Foundation, Inc. (NACES)

NACES administers the NNAAP examination along with its subcontractor Pearson VUE.
